In the early stages of the website
some very interesting family history was included. It took us back to the early
1780's with Charles and Sarah Marshall, the parents of Mathew Marshall
Ford a Slave. It went on to tell us how Jane Ford a free woman married a slave
and so Mathew took on her Surname. And finally, it explained our Early
beginnings in what is known as Culpeper, Virginia.
You may not have been a history buff, but
Culpeper was the sight of the most military battles in the Civil war. Why
is this important to Our family. Jane and Mathew (a former slave) ran a
commissary for the Union Army in the midst of the war. Less than a mile
away from the homestead was a military jail.
You have to ask yourself: What kind
of People were Our Family! Some of our new readers may still ask
: Why is Jane and Mathew important to us. Well Jane and Mathew
fathered Richard Ford who married Sarah and had Mary T who in turn married Dock
Stroud. Well, hold on Dock and Mary had 5 daughters who eventually
moved to Mount Vernon, N.Y and married into the Haden, Tucker, Michael,
Ford and Wyatt Family. Need I say more?
This is a

Family History
we report the reuniting of Barbara McClane with her biological Family. Barbara was left at the hospital after her
birth by her mother. There was no
information on the mother or her whereabouts.
After 60 years of being in Foster Care, experiencing drug addition,
sexual abuse and rehabilitation Barbara finally had a clue to her birth
family.
Barbara
explains that she dared to think she would find her family, she never believed
she would have that missing piece to the puzzle. Recently she watched shows where people were
reunited and she thought she deserved that family connection too. Barbara, did her DNA test on Ancestry and
waited to find some connections that would help her. She sent me an email that says we are a close
DNA match, in fact 2nd Cousins. I looked through my files and had no
clue as to who she might be. She later
emailed again that she and other close DNA matches were going to have a zoom
meeting. I agreed to attend and sat with
a group of 8 people whom I had no knowledge of.
As they introduced themselves and their family lines, I was looking for
matches in our family tree. Names became familiar and I noticed in the group of
8, seven people were from one side of her family and I was not.
The
revelation came quickly and shockingly,
I knew who her mother was . I had
met her twice. When it was my turn to speak, I barely could contain myself. As concisely,
as I could I drew the lines of our connection, and told her that her mother was
Barbara Black who married a McClain. And
that she had 7 seven brothers and sisters. I immediately contacted her birth
family and they said: We have been looking for her for years.!! All Praises
Due.
I write
about Barbara today because she is Paternal cousin who has decided that we will
finally meet. Barbara has written a book entitled “ Blessed Not Bitter”. She will be here to Celebrate Mothers Day with
me because I helped her find her mother!
