Why were you invited to this newsletter?   This is what all of us have in common.    In the early stages of the website some very interesting family history was included. It took us back to the early 1780's with Charles and Sarah Marshall, the parents of Mathew Marshall Ford who was Enslaved. It went on to tell us how Jane Ford a free woman married a slave and so Mathew took on her Surname. Jane and Mathew had 17 children. And finally, it explained our Early beginnings in what is known as Culpeper, Virginia.

You may not have been a history buff, but Culpeper was the sight of the most military battles in the Civil war.  Why is this important to Our family?  Jane and Mathew (a former slave) ran a commissary for the Union Army in the midst of the war.  Less than a mile away from the homestead was a military jail.

You have to ask yourself: What kind of People were Our Family!  Some of our new readers may still ask: Why  is Jane and Mathew important to us. Well Jane and Mathew fathered Richard Ford who married Sarah and had Mary T who in turn married Dock Stroud.  Well, hold on, Dock  and Mary had 5 daughters who eventually moved to Mount Vernon, N.Y and married into the Haden, Tucker, Michael,  Ford and Wyatt Family.  Need I say more?

Peace, love and Healing,

Just like I said August was a hot month with lots of surprises.  August brought us a month of celebrating one birthday after another throughout the entire month. I can't sip anymore.. I meant to say, I can't eat anymore cake!

So here we are cruising into the high holy month of September with one major thought on our minds and that is celebrating the living Matriarch of our family,  Yes, family on Sept 9th our Matriarch will celebrate her 98th birthday in New York.  So from wherever you are stop a moment send out a prayer and extend some love to our own Jean Osborn Tucker Grant. Jean is the daughter of the late Harry P  and the late Helen Stroud Tucker,  Cousin Jean is not only iconic for her longevity, but for how well she spent her humanitarian  life .

At 98 she gives us hope and continues to keep us connected. But during her 98 years she served her family and community by advocating for our rights and making us accountable in bringing positive change, She wasn't daunted by having 6 children and having just a High School diploma. Her will, drive and community sense served as her Masters Degree for making Mount Vernon, New York a better place.  Her quick wit and fierce tongue served well as her PHD in moving and holding Westchester County accountable for its citizens.  There wasn't a street she walked down that someone didn't know her nor  was there a corner turned that she didn't run across someone she had helped.

She proudly carried the title of Ms. C.A.G. ! Named for an organization she helped to find and worked for and with, formally known as Community Action Group. Happy 98th Birthday to our rocking, Kick Ass Matriarch who has never stopped doing what she could to elevate us!!

Please take time to send  Cards, flowers or tokens of your love. Your tokens  can be sent to  Jean Tucker Grant co/ Sarah Newman Rehab Center, 845 Palmer Avenue , Larchmont, NY .

Prayer Warriors

You know the importance of keeping our Elders in your prayers. We encountered so many life changing issues that we have no control of, it's necessary to hold onto our faith.  Trust the process and call on Grace for our family and yourselves.    You deserve to be comforted and covered as well.

Prayers are up for all parents as there children go out to school, new jobs or pluck their last nerve.

Sending prayers to our cousin Delyah Tucker who must now show patience and allow her body to heal.  Being still is not one of her virtues, so please be vigilant is sending out prayers.

We pray for those who are sick and we don't know who they are or the details of their illness.  May they be granted healing grace.

Our History

How we made it through.

We are not only connected by blood but by the life experiences we've all had.

Family, we want to take a minute to acknowledge your journey in trying to heal. All of us at some time or another have experienced the pain of loss and find ourselves dealing in different ways with our grief.

Our loss doesn't just come from Physical death, it could come from the loss of a marriage, or loss of family connection. or the loss of time when you miss the baby being a baby but now they are older.  All of which can bring on grief and the need to heal.

Grieving has no time limit, grieving has no wrong or right, grieving "is adjusting to that which cannot be returned to what you once knew and were comfortable with. It is the death of something within us that makes us human. Grief is asking how will I go on and surviving requires that we at least try.

Face grief head on, don't allow it to take over your life when you are missing that which can't be replaced . The greatest loss in life is when something inside of you is lost. Take a moment with each passing wave of grief to acknowledge it's presence and consciously limit its stay. Cut it's sting, it's time by reflecting on good memory.

While loss is inevitable we have the ability to heal ourselves. Adapting is a healing tool. Refuse to live in the pass . Heal yourself by remembering what was good and clinging to that feeling to pull you through.

We are not Pyschologists.  We are family members that have suffered as well as survived. We encourage you to hold on, and give yourself permission to heal. Our Ancestors would not want us to get stuck in a state of despair.  Here's wishing each of Us a healthy healing heart.

Cling to hope!
