Haden Family and Friends February Edition

 The 140th Edition

February Blessings Family,

Family, January was a month of surprising accomplishments.  Our family's participation in Relay for life was recognized on a National level.  The American Cancer Society has held over 2200 events in 2023.  Of those events Our family's team Sister from the Hearts and Royster Family and Friends received top honors for our fundraising events.  The group is now based in Southern Nevada and was the proud winners of 4 Regional awards.  Only to be announced on air as the National winners on January 25th.  Congratulations goes out to the family and team leads Mary Royster Harris and Michele Harris-Dixon.

It goes without saying ladies we are so proud of your commitment and performance. The group began in the 4 Square Miles, known as Mount Vernon, NY and later moved to Las Vegas Nevada.

Part of the nomination read: This team is exceptionally dedicated to the mission, emulates all the things Relay. Over the past 19 yrs Sisters from the heart has raised $882.000 in the fight against cancer.   Their team comprises of friends and family from coast to coast.  This year, they had 41 family members attend the event.  A niece from New York flew in to be the emcee for the event. Their team grows yearly because they have so much energy, passion and downright FUN that everyone wants to be a part of their team.  You can always count on them being one of the top fundraising teams for the event.  This year, Sisters From the Heart raised $11,174.00 ..

              Message from the Editor

It's always difficult to find what might interest this group of readers.  What keeps you coming back, is it good news, family History or is where everyone is the world today.  I don't get much feedback so the efforts to keep the readers coming back is daunting.  I can tell you what keeps your editor writing is keeping our legacy alive.  It's a belief that no one should know more about us than we know about ourselves.  Some of our history is painful but the Victory is ours because we don't live in our past addictions anymore, we're not in those broken homes, or sinking in despair.   Our history is  one of a winning and fighting spirit.  I rejoice in reconnecting with family members that I only heard about.  I get excited when I see the seed of a teenage mother graduating, or owning a business or being acknowledged for their community service.

This newsletter serves to put an exclamation mark on the lives our Ancestors hoped we would have.  The messages in this newsletter is to offer hope, encouragement  and acknowledgement.  So I hope you will reach out to one another and share victories, desires and needs.  We can only trust you will find this newsletter worthy of your time and take a moment to read and share your news with us.  Please send any thoughts, messages or history to fullergail@hotmail.com or give me a call at 646 8515247; I'll answer.

Our Black History:

Why were you invited to this newsletter?   This is what all of us have in common.

In the early stages of the website some very interesting family history was included. It took us back to the early 1780's with Charles and Sarah Marshall, the parents of Mathew Marshall Ford who was Enslaved. It went on to tell us how Jane Ford a free woman married a slave and so Mathew took on her Surname. Jane and Mathew had 17 children. And finally, it explained our Early beginnings in what is known as Culpeper, Virginia.

You may not have been a history buff, but Culpeper was the sight of the most military battles in the Civil war.  Why is this important to Our family?  Jane and Mathew (a former slave) ran a commissary for the Union Army in the midst of the war.  Less than a mile away from the homestead was a military jail.

You have to ask yourself: What kind of People were Our Family!  Some of our new readers may still ask: Why  is Jane and Mathew important to us. Well Jane and Mathew fathered Richard Ford who married Sarah and had Mary T who in turn married Dock Stroud.  Well, hold on, Dock  and Mary had 5 daughters who eventually moved to Mount Vernon, N.Y and married into the Haden, Tucker, Michael,  Ford and Wyatt Family.  Need I say more?
